St. Mary’s Outreach to the Needy

Through parish collections, members of this ministry provide temporary assistance to those in need.  Because of limited funds, this assistance is limited to food in emergency situations and to partial one-time help with utility bills.  Men and women who possess good communication and organizational skills and who find assisting those in need rewarding, are encouraged to participate.

Respect Life Committee

The Respect Life Committee’s purpose is to promote the sanctity of human life from the moment of conception to natural death.  The committee tracks and responds to proposed pro-life legislation and participates in the annual “Walk for Life” in San Francisco and in Modesto.  They keep the parish informed of pro-life activities through announcements in the weekly parish bulletin.  Prayer is an important part of their activity and they meet once a week to say the Rosary at the Abortion Center in Modesto.  Everyone is encouraged to participate in fighting the culture of death that exists in our society and in developing a link with our youth as it relates to this issue.

English For All

The purpose of this ministry supported by the Stanislaus Literacy program, is to teach English to those individuals who are non-English speaking.  By learning to speak, read, and write in English, participants can become more fully integrated into our community as well as society in general.  By speaking English, participants will have the communication skills to become more successful in seeking employment opportunities and they will be able to assist family members as well, especially as it relates to children's school work.  Participation is open to all over the age of 18.
